The waterfalls are located at the foot of Gunung (Mountain) Muntahak. It cascades down some 34 meters from the mountain.  

The natural beauty of the area is refreshing, and provides an escape for busy city-goers. The cooling river waters also provide an ideal place for swimming, and a nice spot for picnics.

Buses leave frequently from Johor Bahru's Larkin Bus Terminal (on Jalan Garuda) to Kota Tinggi's bus terminal on Jalan Niaga Utama.

By Car
From the North-South Expressway (NSE), take the Kulai exit (Interchange 252) onto the trunk road heading towards Kota Tinggi (Highway 94 and 3). 

Kota Tinggi Waterfalls is located 15km north of Kota Tinggi town. From Kota Tinggi town, get onto Jalan Lombong and look out for sign boards indicating the way to the waterfall.

Wang Burma Cave

Located at the northern-most edge of Peninsula Malaysia, the state of Perlis is easily accessible via the North-South Highway, which links Kangar, the state capital of Perlis, to Kuala Lumpur. Perlis State Park is located about 42km from Kangar town and around 10km from the Malaysia-Thai border of Wang Kelian. 

Wang Burma Cave is one of the most popular caves within the Perlis State Park. It is a haven for spelunking. The cave’s stalactites and stalagmites resemble pillars, curtains and cascades which were formed over millions of years. Enthusiasts can explore the cave at a leisurely pace, or climb, crawl and squeeze between narrow passages and muddy tunnels. 

Some caves such as Gua Kelam, are known for its subterranean rivers, which have been the site of tin-mining activities. International speleologists have visited Malaysia to document the cave’s history and fauna. 

The journey starts with an uphill jungle-trekking guided by an experienced Forest Ranger. Along the route, tourists will learn about various medicinal and poisonous plants and trees. The journey will take approximately 40 minutes to reach the entrance of the cave.  Well-known for its streams and exotic species of insects and fungi, the cave system is divided into two main caves: Wang Burma Satu, the less challenging cave with a more scenic background. It has unique rock formations comprising of stalactites, stalagmites and columns. Wang Burma Dua is physically and mentally challenging with its dark hooks and turns, narrow passages and muddy tunnels –  adventurer tourists will have to crawl and squeeze their way through to reach the amazing water-worn rock formations in the inner part of the cave. 

Tourists are advised to get a qualified guide and permission from the Perlis Forestry Department before going for the cave exploration. The total time to explore the entire Wang Burma cave system will take approximately 3 1/2 hours. Buddy system is advisable.

Mt Kinabalu Via Ferrata

Via ferrata (or iron road in Italian), is a mountain path consisting of a series of rungs, rails and cables embracing the rock face. There are more than 300 via ferrata routes around the world and the world's highest via ferrata, can now be found on Mount Kinabalu in Malaysia, whereby the highest point starts at 3,400 m and ends at 3,800 m. This is the first time that the sport of via ferrata climbing is being introduced in Asia. 

An activity for everyone, the via ferrata is devised to give people with little or no climbing experience access to rock faces normally reached by mountaineers and rock climbers.There are several requirements for one to take part in the via ferrata activity, including having an average fitness level, being able to hike up to 3,200m in 6 hours, being at least 10 years of age, being at least 1.3 metres tall; and, especially, having a fearlessness of heights (or willing to conquer their fear of heights). 

This is a challenging adventure, and those interested to experience via ferrata on Mount Kinabalu should note that the beginner's route will let the climber take their first experience along the granite walls of Mount Kinabalu (a journey of about 2–3 hours). 

The intermediate route will let the climber experience a 4- to 5-hour journey, which will reward the climber with a breathtaking view of the heights and sights.

In less than a month, Asia’s first animation theme park, the Movie Animation Park Studios or MAPS will officially open its doors to the public. MAPS had recently announced that the long-awaited theme park will welcome its first visitors on 26 June this year. 

Movie Animation Park Studios (MAPS) will be the home to some of the world’s biggest animation attractions including the much loved BoBoiBoy, The Smurfs and DreamWorks characters such as Mr. Peabody & Sherman, Megamind, The Croods and Casper the Friendly Ghost. 

Located in Ipoh, Perak in the northern state of Malaysia, MAPS covers 52 acres of land and will feature key international themed attractions, offering more than 40 attractions in six themed zones. 

MAPS will present the world’s first BoBoiBoy animation attractions – BoBoiBoy 4D Adventure Theatre where the exciting journey of BoBoiBoy The Movie continues. Fans of BoBoiBoy can also learn about the awesome superpowers together with the boy superhero and his friends at BoBoiBoy Hero Academy! After Jemaluang town, get onto the Kota Tinggi - Mersing trunk road, heading towards Mersing. Look out for signboards that will lead you to the Mersing Jetty.

As the most northern state in Peninsular Malaysia, Perlis has sometimes been overlooked by tourists passing through the tiny state to go to Langkawi in Kedah or Padang Besar, the border town that separates Perlis and Thailand. What it lacks in size, Perlis makes up for in inviting and friendly atmosphere, as well as serene, unspoilt beauty. Imagine waking up in the middle of a paddy field that can be green or gold, depending on the season, with the majestic limestone hills in the background. 

It’s not all just nature in Perlis; the state also offers various attractions that can fulfil the diverse interests of tourists. Here is a story about the Al Hussain Mosque as a guidance for tourists who may someday find themselves traversing through this tiny state. 

Al Hussain Mosque 

Dubbed as one of the most beautiful mosques in Malaysia, Masjid Al-Hussain is Kuala Perlis’ well-known icon. Built next to the Kuala Perlis Jetty, the mosque’s structure extends over the Straits of Malacca, earning it the nickname ‘Floating Mosque’. A 50-metre bridge connects to the main prayer hall suspended above the water. When the tide is up, and at just the right light conditions, the mosque, with its reflection in the waters, appears to float upon itself, lending an almost magical feel to this place of worship. 

The mosque is also a great spot from which to appreciate the beautiful sunset. The streaks of colour and cloud formations at dusk simply transform the entire landscape into a dramatic backdrop that frames the mosque into an Instagram-worthy moment. 

The unique thing about this mosque is that its walls are not painted, but are, instead, adorned with various corals, quartz, granite, marble and pebbles, providing a unique tactile surface that contrasts to the smooth lines, domes and curves of the building. Its majestic golden-yellow-and-blue dome is made from two layers of aluminium, with a layer of Polyvinylidene Diffluoride (PVDF) protecting its surface. 

Another unique feature is its twin minarets, which are the first hexagonal minarets in the world. At night, the minarets come alive in various colours – with each colour signalling a different prayer time – which can be seen from as far as 10 kilometres.

There's no direct flight to Perlis. The nearest airport is in Alor Setar, which is an hour’s drive from Kangar. 

By Road 

From the North-South (PLUS) Highway, take the exit via Changlun and take the Changlun- Kuala Perlis highway. 

By Train
Take the ETS train from KL Sentral to Arau, then take a taxi to Kuala Perlis.

Birdwatching in the Wetlands 

Grab your binoculars and flock down to Putrajaya Wetlands Park for a day of birdwatching! 

As one of the largest man-made freshwater wetlands in the tropics, the Putrajaya Wetlands is made up of the Wetlands Park (138 hectares) and the wetland areas (1,977 hectares). It is also recognised by UNESCO as an Ecohydrology Demonstration Site, a place where researchers can observe the interactions between water and the ecosystems. The wetlands has a high rate of biodiversity due to its unique ecosystem. 

The park offers itself as a place for visitors to rest their eyes on greeneries and take in a breath of fresh clean air, a treat being so near to the concrete jungle of Kuala Lumpur. It is also a popular spot for birdwatching, recreational activities, fishing and water sports. 

Due to its surroundings, more than 100 species have been spotted around the Wetlands Park, making it a great place for birdwatching. Some of the birds that can be spotted here are Purple Swamphen, Jungle Fowl, Painted Storks, Pelicans, Swans and the Buffy Fish Owls. 

Birdwatchers can climb up the 18 metre lookout tower located in the Wetlands Park for a bird's-eye view of the area and birds flying around it. Those who prefer to keep their feet on the ground can head to the flamingo pond and the swan lake for an up-close view of the beautiful birds. 

There are also nature trails and a plant nursery for visitors who are eager to explore the park, complete with a bike rental service for those who prefer to cycle. Plenty of outdoor space is also available as picnic areas for families looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
